About Us Conscious Brands™ is a small sustainability practise out of Calgary, Alberta. www.consciousbrands.com. The Conscious Brands’ team members leading the carbonlabels.org initiative include founder Rob Sinclair () and Oliver Ferrari (). We are too few to do this alone, but we think that’s a good thing. In the same way that organic growing practices evolved from the bottom up with consumers demanding safer foods, we want the carbonlabels.org standard to evolve from the bottom up. We work with international organizations and NGO's to help implement and grow an international standard.
We want to host a dialogue about what is the most useful and accurate method of conveying to consumers how they can lessen their global warming footprint through purchasing choices. Over the next few months we’ll be continuing to build this organization (and website), through a group of 10-pilot clients; if you feel this could be you please click here.
Oliver Ferrari holds a Master of Environmental Management degree from Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University. His primary area of expertise is integrating financial and environmental data to produce quantitative models of carbon offset and other greenhouse gas-related projects. He is a long-time resident of the Georgia Piedmont and the founder of the consultancy Marion Ecological LLC, based in Atlanta.
Alex Loijos is a life cycle analyst with interests in industrial ecology and product labeling. He graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Philosophy and Physics. In 2007, he co-founded FoodPrint, a non-profit food label project that comprehensively measures a product's contribution to all aspects of health: personal, environmental, and social. Focusing first on the impact of carbon, he assessed the life cycle of 96 major food types--from bananas to walnuts--allowing consumers to compare them and choose the least carbon intensive option. He currently resides in Oakland, California.
In the last 15 years, Rob has been involved with pioneering movements like forwarding the Internet and IT industry in Calgary, and owning and operating an organic food manufacturing company called Friendly Foods. Rob has been working with SMEs in the field of sustainability for the last 3 years with progressive companies that are redefining sustainability by operating beyond it's current definition. Working with the new leaders of corporate responsibility and further understanding the critical role of business within sustainability movements has made Rob a respected voice in the field of sustainability consulting. Rob brings an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of successful business and the inherent value of working within the context of economic, human and natural capital. Mostly an autodidact, Rob has also studied the AA1000, the GRI, Co-Creative Stakeholder Engagement, and Collaborative Business Models. Rob is part of a 2-year technical advisory team with the WRI to help further develop and define the Scope 3 (supply-chain) emissions model for North America. Rob is also part of the stakeholder commitee for the GRI’s food processors module. Rob is a routine guest speaker at industry trade shows, environmental expos, and sustainability events and advises on various ‘green’ purchasing panels around environmental supply chain issues.
Zerofootprint's mission is to empower individuals and communities to fight climate change in measurable and practical ways. We develop applications and initiatives to measure and manage carbon and ecological footprint for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We make these available over the Web with social networks to help every person, organization, city and community know where they stand in the climate crisis and how they can make a difference in the aggregate.
